How do I connect Toknburn to Claude?

No password needed — Toknburn uses your existing browser session cookie. To find it:

  1. Go to claude.ai in your browser and make sure you're logged in.
  2. Open DevTools with Cmd+Option+I (or right-click → Inspect).
  3. Click the Application tab (Chrome/Edge) or Storage tab (Firefox/Safari).
  4. In the sidebar: Cookies → https://claude.ai.
  5. Find the cookie named sessionKey — the value starts with sk-ant-sid.
  6. Copy the full value, paste it into Toknburn Preferences → Claude, and click Test.

Stored in your Mac's Keychain only. Never sent to any Toknburn server.

How do I connect Toknburn to ChatGPT?

Same approach as Claude — no password, just your browser session cookie:

  1. Go to chatgpt.com and make sure you're logged in.
  2. Open DevTools with Cmd+Option+I (or right-click → Inspect).
  3. Click the Application tab (Chrome/Edge) or Storage tab (Firefox/Safari).
  4. In the sidebar: Cookies → https://chatgpt.com.
  5. Find the cookie named __Secure-next-auth.session-token — it's a long JWT string.
  6. Copy the full value, paste it into Toknburn Preferences → ChatGPT, and click Test.

Stored in your Mac's Keychain only. Never sent to any Toknburn server.

For macOS users, yes. Browser extensions only work when your browser is open and on the correct page. How often does Toknburn refresh token usage data?
You choose: every 1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes, or once per hour. Toknburn also refreshes automatically when a reset timer hits zero, and whenever your Mac wakes from sleep — so your numbers are always current.
What does the countdown timer show?
In Session & Timer mode it shows time remaining until your current 5-hour session window resets (e.g. 2h, 45m, 10m). In Weekly & Timer mode it shows days and hours until your 7-day quota resets. When the timer hits zero, Toknburn automatically fetches fresh data.
Is my data private? Does Toknburn send anything to a server?
Your credentials are stored locally on your Mac. Toknburn never sends your data to any Toknburn server — it communicates only directly with Claude and ChatGPT using the credentials you provide, exactly as your browser does. No analytics, no telemetry, no accounts.
What macOS version is required?
Toknburn requires macOS 13 Ventura or later. It is a native Swift app and runs on both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs.
